How to develop a new habit and be consistent with it.

Hello!! Hope you'll are having a super weekend planned, which is more than just binge watching and sleeping, even though Saturdays-&-Sundays pass by in a flash.

In the beginning of this year, I decided that I wanted to develop a habit of reading books, and I have managed to stay consistent with it for quite some time now, hence, here's a post on how you can develop and be consistent about any new habit. These are the chronological steps for doing it:

1. Identify the real purpose - Most of the times people forget to understand the underlying reason as to why they want to change a particular habit or perhaps set a new one. The reason you need to know the real purpose for it, is so that it will be a source of self-motivation for you to make the habit a consistent one.

2. Identify the specific set of habit(s) - Once you know what is the purpose of the change that you want to see in yourself / around, get a deeper insight as to which is / are the habit / habits that will lead to that change. When you will note down the change of your habits, you can also prioritize those habits according to the situational needs.

3. Set realistic expectations for yourself - Now, this is one of the most important steps of this series of steps. You know yourself the best and hence you even know your capability and capacity, hence, set aside a time-line or a goal which matches your ability to achieve it, and you can scale up as the need arises.

4. Set aside a time-slot for it - Now as you set your expectations, its time to add a time-line to that, along with a specific time during the day / week for doing that activity with complete concentration. This will make you disciplined about your new hobby and you will look forward to doing it during that specific time of the day / week.

5. The 21 or 28 day challenge - The task here is to continue the above step for 28 days. Some say, you get accustomed to a new habit within 21 days if you do it continuously, but if you work on that habit for 28 days, your mind will be trained to keep following that habit.

6. Reward yourself - Rewarding yourself for the milestones that you have set for this new habit of yours can help you staying motivated to keep on doing more.

7. Feel the change & rectify - If you feel the change, which is obviously positive, from the above steps, then you should continue with that new formed habit of yours, and if you feel certain areas need to rectified, then you can also do the same to make the entire process a better one.

8. Continue the cycle - And... now that you have finished all the 7 steps, step 8 is all about being consistent and continuing the new habit, until there is another change that you want to see in yourself, or a new habit that you want to inculcate.

Hope this post finds you in good motivation to get-going about the new habit(s) or even any new hobby that you want to inculcate. Thank you for reading, and, comment down below if this post has helped you figuring out your way!!

Much Love, Positivity and Gratitude!
