'The Intern' and the 'Exposure-Nama'

Hi there! Hope you had a super-productive week, or rather, will have an extremely productive weekend since the month end falls now! I can only imagine how things will turn around for me and my fellow friends once we get placed in an organisation. Well, anyway, getting back to the present scene, I just submitted my Summer Internship Project Report and let me tell you, it seemed like a real achievement to hold that 50-page 'own' written report. It brought back in mind all the experiences of the 8 weeks of Internship, and that's where I found inspiration to write this one down. Also, a few days back, somebody shared this image on Whatsapp Group that hinted as to how 'Real Internships' are, so I just had to:

So, I did my Human Resources Internship in the months of May and June, the mandatory one that every Management Student must do to pass gloriously in the 3rd Semester of Post-Graduation. I was working with Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group in Reliance Commercial Finance Ltd. and Reliance Home Finance Ltd. and had a 'wonderful' and holistic learning experience under 4 Verticals of HR: Employer Branding, Manpower Planning, End-to-End Recruitment and Attrition Analysis.

P.S. - Now, I'm NOT going to speak about all this in the post, but I'm going to share all about the non-academic experiences which gave me the 'Real Exposure'
First things first, get it right, you have 2-3 months for the internship and you have to make the most of it. I believe so, because, being a fresher, it was very important for me to get hands-on corporate work experience to be more confident when placements begin. I started going for interviews with this mind-set and even started my internship with the same.

I realized that, it is upon YOU to gain that experience because its on you as to how much eagerness and zeal you have in yourself to 'learn'. This is what distinguishes a 'good' internship from a 'bad' internship. I agree, interns may or not be treated as employees but that's how we can learn to set ourselves apart and be noticed. You can't expect them to give you a PPO (Pre-Placement Offer) just like that!

From another experience, I now know one thing for sure, you will not be liked by everyone. That's the truth even when you actually become a permanent employee wherever. You will be misunderstood at times. Not everyone will encourage the fact that you should be given 'work' and not 'extra' jobs in an internship. But, there is no reason to get dejected about it because such people generally tend to stay in their own comfort zone and not bother much about intern since he/she would be associated with them for a brief period of time. The only thing that you can do is connect with people in the firm who actually value a person's abilities and assist them in projects to learn as much as you can.

Since I'm a fresher, and during placements, I will obviously be interviewed based on this Internship and the project undertaken. Hence, it was very important to choose the internship wisely in a way that I could make an worthwhile report out of it. I was supposed to focus entirely on Employer Branding, but it didn't actually turn up that way, since I got experience under other verticals of HR also which was only better for me. What I'm trying to say here, is the fact that things at internship can go haywire, but always keep in mind the end-result and the 'report' that you have to make and represent which needs to be efficient enough to drive the course of an interview.

In the earlier days of my Internship, I had little access to official files, data-bases and other work related stuff and all I could do was complain and wait for someone to get things done for me. 6 days into the internship and I realized the fact that the sooner you stop complaining and get work done on your own, the better it is. It just shows a positive side of your personality which says that you always believe in setting your own way out.

And last but certainly not the least - Networking - I don't think I really need to elaborate on this point since you all are well aware the importance of it, and not just while interning but anywhere professionally, networking always has an added benefit.

Let me be very clear with this now, I will always cherish the 2 months that I spent at this firm because I have learnt a lot within this tenure. This post has no intentions of speaking cynically about my internship experiences, rather these 2 months has made 'A Woman Out of Me' (As Promised). Really really grateful to the HR team, Uday Sir, Darshan Sir, Sakshi Ma'am, Nasreen, Pratiksha and everyone else at Reliance who made these two months a 'Memory of Lifetime'!

P.S. - In line with AIB's Image above: I obviously got paid 'Travelling Compensation*!

Hope you could connect with this post and comment down below if you want to share more about your internship experiences. I'll be glad if you share this post with your fellow mates! Thank you for reading my posts every weekend, I'll be back with another interesting one.

Much Love, Gratitude and Positivity.
