An Open Letter to All Those Who Don't Take the Pre-Placement Drive Seriously!
Hey! Hope the title of this post has dropped subtle hints as to what to this post is going to be about.
You all must have known by now that I have entered the second year of my Management Studies and the clock has started ticking for the Placement Season already! But before that, we have these really helpful 'Placement Focus' Sessions in our college, which I'm sure every B-School has. These sessions basically groom us in a way that we can be confident to crack a job-offer from the placement drives and embark on a new journey from a Management Student to a Management Trainee.
But, this post is for all those people there, from every B-School who have such perceptive responses about these Placement-Focus Sessions:
"It's a waste of time.."
"The college doesn't get good companies anyway.."
"I rather chill somewhere else than sit for these sessions.."
"Oh, I'll crack the GDPI when the time comes.."
And many other such responses you may have heard of!
So, an Open Letter to All Those Who Don't Take the Pre-Placement Drive Seriously...
Dear Reader,
The soul reason I'm writing this letter is because I came across Post-Graduates who did not take into consideration these Placement Sessions and have ended up settling for merely 'anything' that came in hand, or are still struggling to get that 'anything'. One individual I know, has decent academic record, but didn't take these sessions seriously, and now even after about 20 interviews, that individual hasn't landed any job yet. I'm sure this zis not what you had in mind when you enrolled yourself for this course, right?
When these placement sessions began, the class had about half the attendance. And then for the other half, it is extremely easy to blame the college and the faculty for not getting good companies for placements, but even if the college did, how much work have you done on yourself to actually deserve a place in the companies that the college brought in campus? You definitely can't expect to be spoon-fed at this age, and if that's what you expect, you have probably made a wrong career choice!
Its simple, its give and take. When you will be serious about these placement sessions, you will be at a better stage to be hired, companies will instill confidence in the institute for giving good quality of students. You get the job and with that the college gains reputation. The students excel and the college improves, year by year. So its not just you who is at a loss when you remain absent for these sessions, it is the college too, and in a way you may be one of the reasons the next batch is not getting the kind of placements that they deserve because companies won't be appreciative enough to come to your campus.
I agree about the fact that when you would have taken admission into any Entrance Examination Coaching Class, they would have groomed you for the GD rounds and PI rounds for getting a seat into the MBA college that you desire. But there's a lot that companies expect from 'Management Graduates' per se! It's more about current trends and strategic interviews rather than judging you from how good you are at communication. That's how these Placement Sessions are different from what you learnt in your coaching classes.
When session by session, attendees decrease in number, it somehow creates a negative impression on the people who actually want to take these seriously, and then they too feel like giving the session a skip. Yes, this really does happen. Even if by chance, you do crack a placement somewhere, it may be at a company which doesn't fit to your expectations and that is something that will affect your career-growth in the long run.
And lastly, for all those who are going to be into their family business / entrepreneur post your MBA, I'm sure you still wouldn't find any of these point-of-views convincing enough, but think about this, a little corporate grooming will only help you tackle some situations in a better way at the place that you will be in, in the future.
Sincerely,
Your College-Colleague!
So, if this post has done any good, I hope there will be more attendees at the Pre-Placement Sessions this week onwards. Let's just be high on hope for this one!
